Who of you is reading Heart of Darkness? I know for sure that Kizz is - and that she's ready to start talking about the first 40 or so pages - but I don't know who else is participating in this little discussion group. If you're "in," 'fess up and let me know how far you've read...

I'm dyin' timewise. I read it a long time ago and would need to reread it, but can't. I know. I'm a punk.
On the other hand, I may need some reading material for the Disney trip later this month. What could be more appropriate?
Nothing my friend. I am about 2/3 of the way through the book. They are pages from pulling up at Kurtz's camp I believe. He's talked a little about saving Kurtz's "pamphlet".
I was talking to a friend the other day and found out that around 1974 Paul McCartney recorded Band on the Run in Africa. Zaire I think. That would also be the year that The Rumble in the Jungle happened in Zaire (go rent We Were Kings, fabulous movie). What was our interest in going back there and dropping our pop culture on people? The more I look at it the more I think it was selfish. And, in the end, the governments stole any money we brought in and used it to continue to tyrannize their people. Is it coincidence that foreigners tromping all over Africa happened in the sexually permissive '70s, right before AIDS became known but while it was surely being spread and now Africa is experiencing more devastation than any other continent from that disease? I think not.
What does all that have to do with H0D? Not sure yet, I've just been thinking about Africa a lot.
I'm almost done. By tomorrow morning I bet I will be. Anyone with me?
Ok, I'm done. And I'm not convinced that when he said "The horror" he was talking about the "unspeakable acts". I think he might have been talking about the death he was so close to.
Anyone want to convince me otherwise?
I am not done yet, still working on it. The last couple weeks have been kinda rough and the reading got put aside, sorry :(
